Speaking at Engage.ug

Two weeks from now I’ll be speaking at Engage.ug, along with a host of illustrious names from IBM and the community. I’ll be speaking with Martin Jinoch about the OpenNTF Domino API. After speaking on the API solo at various user groups and during speedgeeking at IBM Connect, it will be interesting to co-host the session with someone who consumes the API and has been very active in working on the Demo database and providing feedback on the API.

As ever, the material has been updated and refreshed and there are a number of additional demos, highlighting some of the additions in the API since the last full release (M4.5). There has been considerable work on the API over the last few months, not only adding new functionality but also improving its performance. Roland Praml has worked extensively with Nathan on performance tuning and it’s enlightening to read (and try to understand!) their conversations.

Some of my most recent work has been around enhancing the MapPicker and ListPicker code that I blogged about and posted on XSnippets (MapPicker and ListPicker). With the help of an example Nathan and I worked on for the Name Picker and the examples from the Extension Library, I was able to set them up as fully-fledged dataProviders available to select within Domino Designer.

The functionality has also been enhanced to allow you to show only the options matching search criteria rather than jumping to the first entry that matches the search criteria. There is also a picker (still in development) to allow selections from enums.
