Last week Chris Connor and I presented at UKLUG on XPages and Java. After some experience of XPages development I’ve been using Java objects in Server-Side JavaScript for some time and have recently branched out into using Java managed beans and other code in XPages Help Application on OpenNTF.

Vectors and Hash Maps are aspects of Java that are new to XPages developers. But if they are understood they add great power to your XPages applications. Incorporating pre-existing Java code in your XPages applications can add great power to your applications, simply because there is so much functionality already created. Because they can be included in SSJS as well as proprietary Java code, there is added flexibility. And once you’re comfortable with that, you can dive into using managed beans, as I did with the XPages Help Application.
